Tips and function FAQ
I am not finding relevant results
If you're not getting the expected results or feel you're missing information, consider improving your query by following these tips:
Check the number of search terms used and avoid internal jargon or overly restrictive words.
Review relevant papers for nomenclature and keywords to add as synonyms.
Experiment with new functions or look at the project from a different perspective.
Identify a known relevant paper to understand the combination of keywords that retrieve it. Not that the paper might be on another page in large results set.
Experiment with Must and Must Not Match criteria.
Include technologies you are aware of and set them as Must Not Match to refine results.
How many search terms is expected in a good query?
In general, a query will be extensive. On average a Findest Query will have
2 to 4 functions with up to 5 synonyms
17 keywords with between 2 to 10 synonyms
Why can't I find a specific paper?
When you are unable to locate a particular paper, we recommend analyzing the keywords and functions within the said paper, and then customizing your search parameters appropriately. Ensuring that the paper's title is listed under “Must Match” keyword will help confirm if the paper is indexed within our database.
Do take note that the search function is engineered to locate all technologies, but its focus is not on identifying every paper associated with a particular technology. This aspect is important especially when you're searching for all or specific papers pertaining to a specific technology.
In cases such as these, we advise setting the function to “Should Match”, and including the technology under “Must Match” as a keyword. If necessary, add a keyword that encapsulates the function (for example, for 'detect welding', consider using 'detect' or 'detection'). This approach will enable you to identify every paper concurrently mentioned with the technology, and most likely find the paper you are looking for.
